Clippers Sign Free Agent Ricky Davis

The Los Angeles Clippers today signed veteran free agent swingman Ricky Davis to a multi-year contract, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

Carrying career averages of 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 31.1 minutes, Davis tallied 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 82 games played for the Miami Heat during the 2007-08 season. The 6-foot-7-inch Iowa product also connected on 420-971 FG (.433), 135-333 3FG (.405) and 155-197 FT (.787) on the year.

“We believe he will be a good addition,” Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor said. “His versatility and ability to shoot from the outside will spread the floor and help our low post players.”

Davis turned in his most productive NBA season in 2002-03 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 20.6 points, 5.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 79 games played.

Davis was originally selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round (21st overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft, after one season at Iowa where he tallied 15.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Clippers really revamped their roster, i think they should have a great season. Everyone thought they were doomed when they lost Brand but they made some great additions to their rosters. They got Camby, Baron Davis, Ricky Davis from FA and Eric Gordon and DeAndre Jordan from the Draft. They still also have Al Thornton, Chris Kaman, Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas..atleast they are out of that gutter.

Any word on how much they're paying him?

He's a good replacement for Maggette, a pretty similar player but not quite as good.

Ricky is a good cheap pickup for them. He can definitely make it easier for Thornton and Gordon and better for their team.

Nope they just said a "multiyear contract" but they will probably announce it soon anyway im guessing somewhere around 4-5 mil a year, but thats just a guess. Still though thats a pretty good deal for a versitile player like Ricky, The west just got a little more tougher.

I think since this is their first year they probably wont make a huge run..maybe 8th seed? If they were to be in the East they would clearly be a top contender but this is the West and after seeing how close the race was last season, you really cant predict this far ahead in time.

BS :man10:

The Western Conference is vastly overrated. Very little defense is played in the West while most every playoff caliber Eastern Conference team would be amongst the best defensively in the West.

Lakers, Hornets, Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Jazz, Blazers, healthy Rockets would all be Top 4 seed teams.

Warriors, Nuggets, Clippers would easily be playoff teams

The other 4 are rebuilding.

Spurs, Lakers, Hornets, and Jazz are the only ones that would be contending though all four would be underdogs in a series against the Celtics or Pistons and they all would struggle against Cleveland and Orlando.
