arguably the MVP should have gone to Kobe last year, but I think the voters thought his stats came at the expense of the team. His selfishness (or perceived if you don't wanna admit he was a ball hog) cost him votes and Nash's team first mentality and impressive offensive stats won him the award. With Nash you have to look beyond the stats and see the intangibles. He's running a team that plays against the grain of current conventional NBA wisdom and rather than bogging down the game they're running and trying to outscore their opponents rather than shut them down.
His missing games is a great way to measure his value to the team because 2 years ago some writers thought Nash wasn't even the clear cut MVP of the Suns. They said Amare was just as important.
Amare goes down last year and the Suns keep chugging along. Nash misses a handful of games, the Suns tread .500 ball.
It obvious he is the system in Phoenix and that's what makes him so valuable.
As for not being a good let alone great defender.. guilty as charged.. but then again the Suns philosophy of outscoring their opponents allows him to not have to be a good defender.
I don't begrudge anyone thinking someone else deserved the MVP this year, last year or the year before, but to say it's tainted because Nash won is absurd.
He's worthy of the award as are/were several other players in the league...
