O'Neal Calls Nash's MVPs 'Tainted'

Shaquille O'Neal considers Steve Nash's MVP awards to be "tainted."

After Miami's loss in Dallas on Thursday, O'Neal was engaged in an MVP discussion as it related to the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki. O'Neal questioned how the media picks MVPs and said the award has been "tainted" the past two seasons. O'Neal was the runner-up for Nash's first MVP in 2005.

O'Neal repeated "tainted" references to reporters.

"I don't know what to say," Nash said. "I'm sorry he feels that way."

How is it "tainted"...

MVP = Most Valuable Player

Steve Nash is the MVP no question. You take him off of that Phoenix team and the whole team suffers, he makes all the players around him better. I think Nash's is more deserved then Shaqs. Id rather give the award to a guy who averages a double/double almost everynight with assists and can shoot from all over the court, then a guy who rebounds, blocks, and scores primarily on putbacks....pffft...shut up Shaq

2 years ago Nash definitely deserved it over Shaq, but last year he did NOT deserve it over Kobe, Dirk, and even possibly Lebron.

The Lakers would have been a LOT more lost without Kobe than the Suns without Nash.

Yea I think Dirk should have had it last year, idk bout Lebron. Steve Nash is looking like he might get it again.

arguably the MVP should have gone to Kobe last year, but I think the voters thought his stats came at the expense of the team. His selfishness (or perceived if you don't wanna admit he was a ball hog) cost him votes and Nash's team first mentality and impressive offensive stats won him the award. With Nash you have to look beyond the stats and see the intangibles. He's running a team that plays against the grain of current conventional NBA wisdom and rather than bogging down the game they're running and trying to outscore their opponents rather than shut them down.
His missing games is a great way to measure his value to the team because 2 years ago some writers thought Nash wasn't even the clear cut MVP of the Suns. They said Amare was just as important.
Amare goes down last year and the Suns keep chugging along. Nash misses a handful of games, the Suns tread .500 ball.
It obvious he is the system in Phoenix and that's what makes him so valuable.
As for not being a good let alone great defender.. guilty as charged.. but then again the Suns philosophy of outscoring their opponents allows him to not have to be a good defender.
I don't begrudge anyone thinking someone else deserved the MVP this year, last year or the year before, but to say it's tainted because Nash won is absurd.
He's worthy of the award as are/were several other players in the league...
