Something tells me you wouldn't be asking this if it wasn't true...but I gotta go with false with the tradition the Celtics have..? _________________

Not really when you thnk about ... all the really good C's team liked to pass the ball .. they were about the team...not the individual. Wish Doc could teach our present team and team leader this factor. |

In spite of having Larry Bird and Kevin McHale, both of whom probably could have lead the lead in scoring on other teams, the Celtics stuck to a team game. As you said, they were passing teams and it was all about finding the open man and with 5 guys on the floor who unselfishly gave the ball up and no one player who was the "go to guy" the scoring was spread around. It made it hard for teams to defend.
I agree 100% that I wish our current team would get this. But I don't think that they will get the team concept until we get a better coach. Doc defers to Pierce too much and most of his plays go through Pierce. That is why we struggled so much against the Sixers. Doc has most of our offense go through Pierce in one way or another instead of spreading it around. _________________

You think you can chalk that up to him fearing being fired? I can imagine if my job was constantly in question by the media I'd be a bit hesitant to try new things and instead would just run things through the proven star on the team... _________________

If you want to be technical, four different scoring leaders played for the Celtics.
Nate "Tiny" Archibald - 1 Time - 1973
"Pistol" Pete Maravich - 1 Time - 1977
Bob McAdoo - 3 Times - 1974, 1975, 1976
Dominque "The Human Highlight Film" Wilkins - 1 Times - 1986
Not to mention, Bird's 1985 and 1988 seasons and Havlicek's 1971 season all rank in top 100 scoring seasons of all-time. |

It is how Doc (the player) made Dominique 'successful'. Doc (the coach) has done the same thing. First in Orlando with McGrady and now in Boston with Pierce. Everything is set up to maximize the star player. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it is clearly the aim. The problem, imo, with playing in that manner is that it makes it an all or nothing proposition. It can only work, imo, if you have a low-turnover, high-efficiency star player. Something Pierce clearly is not. |
