On PTI yesterday it was said that Doc will not coach the Celtics next year unless a contract extension is put in place. A coach who has managed a team as poorly as Doc has is in no position to make demands and might as well be considered gone at this point. _________________

I'm sure this thread will fill with fans expressing their dismay that such an incredible coach is being let go.
Thanks for the info Mike. _________________

On WEEI today Danny Ainge sounded pretty ticked off about the whole Doc situation. He wouldn't directly comment on it, but he did say that there will be no negotiations until the off-season. _________________

his is a quote from the Orlando Sentinel today
| Quote: |
Rivers' four-year contract expires after next season, and he has yet to sign an extension. But he told the Sentinel that he expects the Celtics to offer him one.
"I think so. I think we'll get it done," he said. "I don't see any indication of it not happening."
Rivers said he isn't frustrated to the point of ducking out and perhaps returning to the television booth, adding, "I've been through all of this, so I want to see it through." |
Doc wants to stay and see this team develop into a contender. We have all the pieces, especially with a top draft pick. But the thing is, will they develop with Doc as the coach? His game management is just so bad that I don't think so, unless he gets a good Xand O guy on the bench with him and lets him call the shots in games.
Danny being aggravated about it could go one of two ways. If he is ticked off about Doc's posturing and campaigning for an extension already it could make him want to get rid of him and give him an excuse to do so.
On the other hand, he may be ticked off at all the talk of firing him and questions from people wanting to get rid of him and in that case is going to keep him. _________________

I just hope they don't hire some retread coach he's been around the block with mediocre or worse success.
That never works IMO. |

I think Ainge will probably offer him an extension in the off-season. _________________

| I won't believe Doc's gone until it's official. I longer the season goes on with him on the bench, the more I think they'll - unfortunately - bring him back. It sucks. |

My opinion on Doc has gone back and forth this season. The young guys seem to trust him so in that aspect Id say bring him back. _________________

Business is business and Doc no longer has any business being in Boston. I'm sure the players will understand. If not, half of them are waive-able or trade-able, anyways.
LOL- I say we draft well and trade our starting 5 for Orlando's starting 5...and trade coaches too...think the NBA will approve that trade? _________________
