With Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and now Kevin Garnett, are the Celtic's now a contender in a weak Eastern Confrence? What ya guys think?

I think they can get to the Finals. That should be the expectation now, the Finals. Will they be able to compete with the Spurs, Mavs or Suns? Lucky for them, they all have weak centers (minus the Suns, who have Amare who plays C for them). But Kevin Garnett can match up with Duncan, Dirk and Amare. The Spurs have Bowen, the Suns have Raja, but he can only guard one of Pierce/Allen. Getting to the finals, they have a legit shot at championship as long as they can fill in their bench, and add a starting PG.

Like I said in the other thread, my vote goes to Charlie Bell (MLE), Danny Fortson (Vet Min). They'd be lucky if they could attract a PJ Brown or Chris Webber along as well.

I thought they could be a contender before getting KG. I believe they now are one of the best 3 teams in the East now and should be considered a contender.

The Suns, Jazz, and Mavs are I believe good matchups for the Celts. I believe in a 7 game series, our team would beat those three. The Spurs and Rockets would be tougher. The Rockets are a tough matchup and the Spurs have Duncan.

they're a top 4 team in the east now.
Chicago, Miami, Detroit and Cleveland are contenders too.
The Heat are on the list because a motivated Shaq will always be hard to deal with.
If he's coasting, then take them out.
Lebron got a taste of the finals, he's gonna be a tough out too.

Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Jazz and Rockets are contenders too IMO.

^ Very insightful, contributing post.

To answer your question, yes Boston is a contender. They fit right in as the East's elite with Chicago and Detroit. Get past those two, and they have a legit shot at getting Garnett his first ring - which I would love to see him get.

The Celtics are contenders but they aren't automatically in the Finals like some people think.

Yea I think the C's are definitley contenders, but are far from a lock to make it to the finals. It's yet to be seen how Pierce handles playing with other allstars around him.

Why shouldn't they be a lock to the finals? Even if they have a few problems, whos gon stop them....the Cavs? Nope. Miami? Nope, too old now. Chicago? They need that low post scorer still. The only team I see a threat to the Celtics is Detroit.

I think the Bulls are more than capable.

Yea if anybody is going to stop the Celtic's in the East then my guess would be either Detroit or Chicago. I'm not sure that Chicago could stop our inside game, but they do seem like a good match up defensively against us. Detroit is probably one of the better defensive teams in the league, but I could see them potentially having some scoring issues this season.

I'd also throw in the Raptors. they're young and only improving on a great year last year. I don't think they'll falter in the playoffs again.

C's are contenders.. automatic.. no, we don't know how long it will take them to get their chemistry right.
it may not be until next year until they can make the ECF's or Finals.
