Reports From Boston's Scouting Department
While it's been made clear that the Boston Celtic's will be keeping a keen eye on the backcourt talent in this years draft class, that doesn't mean that they haven't been scouting the big men in this years class. "Our focus is definitely being put on the guards coming out in this years draft, but we've also been scouting a good amount of big men, guys we feel will be second tier players" said one Celtic's scout. Our source says, similar to the guards that Boston has scouted, Boston has three big men on they're draft board, and will continue to thoroughly scout these players as the season progresses.
On top of the Celtic's draft board is 19 year old DeAndre Jordan. The young big man has been highly touted since high school, and while is playing the center position in college, is projected as a strong forward at the NBA level. "Great instincts, a real low post banger with some polished offensive moves, but he's very prone to foul trouble, and some might consider him somewhat of a dirty player the way he comes down hard on every rebound" said one NBA scout.
Second on the Celtic's draft board for big men is Georgetown center Roy Hibbert. Hibbert who chose to remain in college instead of declaring last season when he was highly hyped, might have seen his stock fall a bit, but if we've learned anything in our years of scouting, it's that NBA teams fall in love with guys like Hibbert. "You can't teach size" says the Celtic's scout. "You can teach shot mechanics, you can teach fundamentals, you can teach a lot, but size is one thing you cannot teach, and Roy has a ton of size, along with great strength. He's still extremely raw though on both ends of the floor. A real high risk high reward type of pick if someone were to take him in the lottery."
Rounding out the Celtic's big man draft board, is Kansas forward, Darrell Arthur. Now Arthur might be a pure pipe dream for Celtic's fans, as some feel he could go in the top 5, which is somewhere that the Celtic's will likely not be drafting, barring any drastic offseason moves of course, however if there was one big man worth trading up for, Arthur might be that. "Incredible athlete, he'll be on ESPN highlights daily with his jaw dropping dunks. But he also has a surprisingly well refined jump shot, he can play on the low block, he does it all. He probably has the most potential of any forward in this class not named Michael Beasly." _________________
