Celtic's Continue To Explore Draft Possibilities

"They are in the unfortunate position of not having any draft picks for the upcoming draft, and they're won't be much they can do to improve in free agency because of their cap situation, but I believe the Celtic's will explore draft possibilities and look to acquire a first round pick somehow"
says our source from within the Celtic's scouting department, who says that even after parting with all the teams 2008 picks, they continue to scout projected 2nd rounders, and have recently been sent out to scout some of the draft's top tier prospects. "It's mostly been backcourt players, one and two guards" says our source.

Our source mentioned that the Celtic's have entered preliminary talks with the Indiana Pacers about acquiring one of the four upcoming first round picks that they currently hold the rights to, with the Memphis Grizzlies pick being the most highly touted. "I think if the Pacer's were to move that Memphis pick, it would be under the circumstances that they would be able to dump another bad contract, something long term like Mike Dunleavy, and maybe pick up a shorter contract to help them with they're 2010 plan."

The Laker's and the Orlando Magic have also been rumored to be in discussions with Boston regarding a 2008 first, although our source tells us that talks with Orlando came to a halt when Orlando refused to negotiate with the pick unless young combo forward Josh Smith was in the discussion. "There is a very strong feeling within the league that Boston won't trade Josh [Smith] for anyone shy of LeBron James, and I think we all know that James won't be going anywhere." The Laker's seem like the most likeliest of scenario's as they are reportedly looking for nothing more then cash considerations, however the pick is a projected late first rounder, and could have the Celtic's targets long gone by the time they're name is called as being on the clock.

"They'll do something"
says a league official. "The trade deadline is approaching, and it's become common knowledge that they are looking for a first round pick, and I think they have some options open to them to acquire that pick. But they won't overpay for it, I know that much. If they cannot get a deal that they feel is fair, and a pick that they feel is worth obtaining, then they may just stand pat and try to make good use of their MLE and LLE."
