Boston Celtics & Sacramento Kings Closing In On Deal
[November 18, 2008] ---
BREAKING NEWS
Boston, Massachusetts - "As far as I know the paperwork has been submitted to the league's office and both sides are just waiting for the deal to be finalized" said an NBA league insider in regards to a deal that seems to have come out of nowhere involving the Boston Celtics and the Sacramento Kings. It was rumored earlier today through draft specialists that the Boston Celtic's were exploring different options to acquire the rights to a first round pick, and it seems that with this deal, that's exactly what they have done.
According to our source, the Boston Celtic's have agreed to take on the bloated contract of career bench rider Kenny Thomas, who while not playing a single minute this season, is being paid $7,331,250, and will have over $16,000,000 remaining on his contract after this season. The Kings, along with Thomas and the rights to they're first round draft selection for this season, will also be sending Boston the rights to rookie center Spencer Hawes, who despite limited playing time, has shown flashes, and the potential to develop into a franchise big. "I think earlier in the season with those Boston Indiana deals, the Celtic's front office made it clear that they'd be willing to eat some bad contracts if they felt that it would make them a better team down the road, and this is the perfect example of just that. They're forced to eat a terrible contract in Kenny Thomas, but at the same time get a great young big man with the potential to develop into something really special, and the rights to a first round pick, which will probably land somewhere in the early to mid teens. Whether or not the Celtic's will hold on to Hawes is something that is already being mentioned among some NBA circles however. they could very well go out and parlay Hawes in a salary dump type of deal, and maybe even get themselves another first round selection"
The Celtic's will be sending to Sacramento, $3,000,000 worth of expiring salary in the form of DeSagana Diop and Darrell Armstrong, as well as the centerpiece of the deal, young big man, and dominating shot blocker, Darko Milicic. "From what I understand the Celtic's had some offers for Darko, but nothing like this. Nothing where they get a young potential replacement, and a first rounder, which I guess is what they were looking for by the looks of this deal." |
