Reports From Boston Celtic's Scouting Department

After a long search, the Boston Celtic's, who at one point held the rights to four 2008 first round draft selections, have finally acquired a pick that a scout from within the Boston Celtic's scouting department says is anticipated to be in the second tier of players. "We don't anticipate the pick as being a lottery selection, so while yes we have been scouting the OJ Mayo's, Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley and so on, we've put more of our focus into what we feel are the second tier players. The players we expect to go in the mid to late teens." Our source says that the majority of scouting this season has been focused on point guards and shooting guards, and that right now the team is doing extensive scouting on three players. Here is a quick breakdown of the Boston Celtic's scouting reports.

1.) Mario Chalmers, PG, Kansas: Chalmers is known as being one of the better perimeter scorers in NCAA basketball. A great jump shooter with the potential to develop into a big time scorer at the NBA level. The downside with Chalmers however is his size. And just 6'1, 190 pounds, and questionable play making skills, some scouts feel as though Chalmers will be easily over matched by opposing point guards, and could develop some bad habits at the NBA level. "It's very conceivable that Mario could develop into a volume shooter. Someone who can give you 20 points a night, but will need 20 attempts to do it" said one NBA scout.

2.) Russell Westbrook, PG, UCLA: Right now Westbrook is really on the brink of being a first tier player, and as the draft approaches he could see his draft value either sky rocket, or slowly fade and push him out of the lottery. A solid defender with a very well refined and polished offensive game, Westbrook has the talent and potential to be a true franchise point guard, however with a scorer's mentality, he could fall into the habit that many NBA guards do, and play more SG then PG, however with his size, playing Westbrook at the two guard would be a major liability on defense. Most scouts expect to see Westbrook gone within the first 12-15 selections in the draft, but if he somehow falls to Boston, he would be an absolute steal.

3.) Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, UCLA: At times, an absolute mess playing college ball, at other times, absolutely brilliant. L.R Mbah A Moute is one of the rarities in basketball that many scouts feel will translate his game better at the NBA level then he did at college. An excellent offensive rebounder with a knack for getting to the rim. His incredible length and 7'7 wingspan should help him develop into an absolute lock down defender. Loads of potential, and Mbah A Moute could be taken in the lottery as a gamble, or teams could let him slip hoping to pick him up in the later selections.
