Well being stuck with the #5 pick might not be as bad as we all think. Sure Greg Oden, Kevin Durant & Brandon Wright will be gone, but there are still plenty of great players. Here is a quick review of who might be available with the number 5 pick, and who I think the Celtics should draft if they keep the pick.
1.) Yi Jianlian, PF, China
He’s a 7 footer who handles the ball and has the quickness of a guard. Doesn’t have 3 point range but has a deadly fade away from 15-17 feet and has the ability to explode to the basket. Might run into some problems playing PF as he’s not a naturally aggressive rebounder but he has all the potential to be an all-star.
2.) Al Horford, PF, Florida
He’s a bit undersized as far as PF’s go but he’s extremely strong and a solid low post defender. Other then his height he looks NBA ready as far as his frame goes, for someone his size he runs extremely well and is a great outlet passer. He lacks a consistent jump shot but has shown decent touch which should help him along with his jumper.
3.) Jeff Green, SF, Georgetown
His court vision and playmaking ability is amazing considering his size and position, he handles the ball well and is a great perimiter defender. His offense is questionable though. In college is core offense was posting up smaller players & he has a great arsenal of post up moves, but posting up NBA fowards could pose a problem for him.
4.) Corey Brewer, SF, Florida
The Celtic’s are loaded at the SF position but Corey Brewer is unlike any of the celtics SF. He’s a lockdown defender capable of guarding anyone. He has great leaping ability which helps him to create offense while driving to the basket, and when he has his feet set he has shown that he can shoot the ball from 3 point range. His biggest weakness is his offense and he has really no ability to create offense off the dribble.
5.) Spencer Hawes, C, Washington
For someone of his size he in an incredible ball handler and runs the court better then alot of guards do. He has range out to 3 point land and showed that he is consistent shooting the 15 footer. Not a great rebounder or defender and it would benefit him to bulk up but he is by far the best prospect besides Greg Oden at the center position.
