The way things are now I don't think the Celtic's need to go through another rebuilding process, hell we've been rebuilding for 10 years. Hopefully in May the ping pong balls fall our way and we can draft Kevin Durant or Greg Oden to help add a little size to the roster, and the potential is there for one of those guys to become a franchise player. And with another year of experience for Gerald Green & Al Jefferson the chemistry will be much better next year. I still worry about the PG situation even though Rondo looks like he's gonna be a great 1 guard he's still young and will make mistakes, but it seems like the team has finally grasped the idea of uptempo basketball, and once the Celtics can find a PG who can work the fastbreak our offense has the potential to be very good, and with Al Jefferson turning into an elite forward the Celtics will also have a dominant inside presence.
As far as the veterans on our team are concerned - Pierce is aging, but he's still a top 20 player and an elite scorer. I understand his frustration with the team this year but his dip in production came from injuries and he still has a few good years left. If Wally can finally be 100% next year then he could be a valuable asset off the bench to spark the offense with his shooting. Im not gonna count on Tony Allen to be productive until I see that he can bounce back from his surgery, but if he does produce, he can add lock-down defense and hustle to the roster. And Theo Ratliff if healthy says he plans to play which will probably be limited minutes, but he can still add good inside defense, rebounding and great shot blocking ability.
Id still like the C's to make a trade for a legit veteran player since the caproom isnt there to sign any impact free-agents, and for the right player I wouldn't mind seeing Gerald Green or Al Jefferson packaged together with Delonte West and/or Ryan Gomes, Tony Allen or Kendrick Perkins. Because if Greg Oden is drafted then Perkins becomes more of a trade piece then anything, and when the lottery comes around if the C's don't get a top two pick then they're lottery pick also becomes a very valuable trade piece.
If the C's are going to make a bid at a player like Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol or Jermaine O'neal then Al Jefferson becomes expendable IMO. As good as Al Jefferson is, and he'll probably get better over the years, I'll take the experience and veteran leadership of an established All-Star over the all-star potential of a young kid with only a few years in the leauge.
Either way if the Celtic's can put together a healthy starting 5 next year, and not have any major injuries then they're a playoff team IMO, and hopefully with the addition of Kevin Durant or Greg Oden they'll add an impact player to next year's roster, and in this draft even 2nd round players have the potential to contribute right away.
