Derek Fisher + Boston = Perfect Fit?

Derek Fisher + Boston = Perfect Fit?

Postby nepg on Tue Jul 03, 2007 9:12 pm

Derek Fisher wants to play next year, but it has to be in an area where he can be near his daughter and where she can get the best health-care possible. Boston has one of the best Children's facilities in the world, they have a need for a backup veteran PG, and he's only looking for whatever is left of an MLE (i.e. scraps). He can play a little 2, so he can play with Rondo at times and provide an extra veteran for guys to learn from and for Doc to turn to when he needs them.

Not the biggest fan of Fisher's, but this just seems like a great fit.

he would be a nice back up PG to have for the team.
he'd also be a good locker room guy and his families story is truly touching.

Yea he really would be the perfect fit for Boston, not even as a backup Id probably start him over Rondo. And he could definitley help Rondo along with his shooting.

another nice option would be the recently released Brevin Knight.

I also think they should call Denver and see if Camby is available for cap relief (ie Theo)
Theo makes more next year, but the life of their contracts, it's 13 mil in savings.

Right now...Id have to say Gabe Pruitt because Rondo is reallt the only PG we have at the moment.

Looks like they're seriously considering bringing Telfair back and giving him a second chance. I wouldn't mind seeing that happen. Players, and people in general, seem to have a huge period of enlightenment when they turn 22. It's weird, but look at Perk and Jefferson last season just for an example.

I just realized this now, but it could become a major problem for the Celtics's this season.

The Celtic's have always been determined to play uptempo fastbreak basketball right?...Well with the addition of Ray Allen I'd say it's going to be even harder now then it was before to get these players to commit to running. Rondo is lightning quick and takes alot of chances on the defensive end which in a fastbreak set is okay, but in a halfcourt set that could casue some major issues.

FSN New England says that the Celtic's are going to try and turn Rondo into a half-court PG, but IMO Rondo is the exact opposite of that. Rondo's greatest assett is his ability to drive to the hoop and dish the ball out to the open man on the wing, which I suppose he'll still be able to do in a halfcourt offense, but not as much as we saw him do last year. Gabe Pruitt has some experience in a half-court offense but he's definitley not going to start over Rondo, so Derek Fisher IMO is the best possible option we could get to play PG IMO.

Well, scratch Fisher off the wish list:

The Los Angeles Lakers emerged as an instant favorite to sign Derek Fisher last week after Fisher asked the Utah Jazz to release him from the final three years and $21 million left on his contract so he could move to one of the half-dozen NBA cities with a treatment center equipped to handle his young daughter's rare form of eye cancer.

Call them virtual sure-thing favorites now.

Fisher, according to NBA front-office sources, is no longer even considering other teams and is on track to re-sign soon with the Lakers -- who drafted him in 1996 -- barring an unexpected snag in negotiations.

OK...so this will be, what? their third point guard acquired this off-season? For a system that doesn't require a point guard at all, that's a bit retarded.

Haha its their 2nd. Well, I don't think Critt will be ready this year, Fisher can be the starter right now while Farmar and Critt develop. Or maybe Farmar is on his way out.

They also drafted Sun Yue, who is a PG that they're going to try to turn into a point forward (a la Lamar Odom).
