This nightmare season continues to get worse. Celtics great Dennis Johnson died of a heart attack while coaching the Celtics' D-Leage affiliate today. He was 52. DJ has always been one of my all time favorite Celtics. It is a shame that he wasn't elected to the hall of fame. RIP, DJ! You will be missed!!
yep, that is awful. the unsung hero of those great 80's teams. NBA TV dedicated all of their programming yesterday to him, which i quite enjoyed. i sat back in my Celtics gear, threw back a few cold ones, and watched hours of DJ TV. "There's a steal by Bird. Underneath to DJ, he lays it in!!"

Any real NBA fan gets chills anytime they hear/read that. LOVE IT!
This has always been one of my favorite plays. But it wasn't the steal by Bird or the layup by DJ that defined this play and characterized DJ's play. It was what happened after the layup that to me made DJ such a great player. He had just made the game winning layup with 1 second to go and he didn't turn to celebrate with the rest of his teammates. He turned to guard the inbounds pass. Now that is a great player. How many players today would have had the presence of mind to immediately think defense after hitting such an exciting shot. I always liked DJ but after seeing that, he became one of my all time favorites. It is a travesty that he wasn't elected to the Hall of Fame while he could enjoy it.
Im personally going through serious sickness in my family and I know what its like to lose a family member. DJ is in my thoughts and prayers, and Celtics Nation is praying for his family.
