Bassy Gets Benched

Bassy Gets Benched

Postby MikeDead on Tue Jan 23, 2007 4:33 pm

Sebastian Telfair has been moved to third on the Celtics PG depth chart. He'll now be playing behind Delonte and Rajon. I hate Delonte at the point cause he refuses to play up-tempo and had played the 2 guard his whole life and just got thrown into the PG role cause he's undersized, but Rondo getting some more minutes is a definite good thing. I like Sebastian though and I hope he can work himself out of this slump.

I liked Telfair's attitude about the whole thing in the article I read. He blamed no one but himself and said it's his own fault that he's lost the starting role.

Yea I read that too, its pretty rare these days to hear a player blame himself, espescially a player so young.

Hello all. I'm new here.

I don't think Bassy was playing bad enough to be buried on the bench the way Doc has done him. He was benched right after a 5 game win streak, which seems a bit curious to me. Sure, he wasn't playing great, but I thought Doc should have stuck with him and let him work through his troubles. West was given the same chance last season and in a season where the team isn't going to make the playoffs, Telfair and Rondo should be getting plenty of minutes running the point, not West, to develop their games in hopes that they are ready to roll next season. I have no idea what Doc is doing or thinking with regards to Bassy. He can't improve his game from the bench. The kid needs to be on the floor.

I'm with you bankshot...plus like I mentioned earlier...Telfair has been quite mature about the whole situation. He took the blame on himself and sounded ready to do the work necessary to be the PG the Celtics need. Hard to do much from the bench though...

Welcome to the forum BankShot

The only problem I can see Doc having with Sebastian is that Bassy wasn't contributing any offense at all, and wasn't really even looking for a shot most of the time. Still I think Sebastian can pan out to be a good point guard in this leauge and sitting on the bench is just gonna stall his development, and with the season already done for Doc might as well start Delonte at the 2 and let Bassy and Rondo get all the minutes they can.

Leon Powe should be getting a hell of alot more minutes to cause he's looked great so far....

Well you would think with all of the injuries now that Doc would start Rondo at the point and West at the SG and let Bassie back-up Rondo at the point. Green hasn't exactly been lighting things up, so there's no reason he has to start the game. He can still get plenty of minutes and experience coming off the bench while everyone is still injured.

I'm not a big fan of Delonte playing the PG position anyway, and with Pierce, Tony and Wally out, he can log more time at the SG position. He's a better outside shooter anyway. He doesn't look to run or push the ball up the floor, and he just doesn't have the kind of skills I look for in a PG. I don't think his assist-to-turnover ratio is all too hot either.

My other question about Delonte is why doesn't he step up as the go-to guy at the end of games? Mike and Tommy or Donny whoever it was were talking the other night about Pierce being out and no one stepping up in the 4th quarter. And the C's were running a halfcourt set and they got a shotclock violation because no one wanted to take the shot, and I was wondering why Delonte gave up the ball instead of shooting. I think he shoots well enough to do it, so I don't know if he just doesn't want to be that guy, but I think he's the best option at this point.

Im not a fan either of Delonte running the point, espescially if the C's plan on playing up-tempo basketball. But as Doc has shown he's not exactly great when it comes to rotating players.

It was good to hear he's taking it in stride, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's shipped out this summer.

Wouldn't surprise me either. I could see Bassy thrown into a package type deal.

Unless he develops into a solid starting PG (like I think he will). Then we'll all be talking about how stupid Danny Ainge is.

I too was impressed with Telfairs attitude, I thik a lot of guys were worried about his charecter at the beginning of the yr with the robbery and all, however I think this shows a great deal of a great attitude from a promising young man.

Now if he could only develop a consistent mid range jump shot.

Im leaning towards saying no to any trade. Might as well let the guys develop as much as they can so they're prepared for next year. Only guys Id part with are Theo, Kandi, West or Bassy. I wouldn't move anyone else at this point.

Bassy's back! He was more aggressive than I've seen in a while, which was good to see. I understand cutting his minutes if he's not playing too well, but he never should have been out of the rotation altogether. I'm glad he's getting playing time now though. I hope Doc lets Rondo and Bassy run the point and keep West at the 2.

I just wish Doc was good enough coach to help these kids to pull out a couple of wins. They need one in the worst way. They are starting to hang their heads, which is not good.
